Dave, Part Deux

Saturday, September 18th. Okay, I just finished our blog from yesterday. Now, to get today down and I’ll be all caught up! It is now 3:30 in the morning, so try to hang in there with me. I hope this all comes across in English, but I make no promises. We crawled out of bed this morning for just enough time to confirm that our feet were bruised on the bottoms. Yesterday took a toll on us and we weren’t ready to face the day just yet. Thankfully we didn’t have any morning plans, and so we laid in bed and watched the rain pour down and the bolts of lightning streak across the sky. Once we were ready to emerge for the day the rain had let up and we headed north again, this time to a little diner a few blocks away. I was craving eggs benedict, and...

Hello Boys!

Friday, September 17th I’m writing this on September 18th, well, 19th technically. It is 3am and I’m ready for bed, but I’ve sadly fallen behind on my blogging, so I’m going to try to play catch up right now! On Friday we decided to lay pretty low because we were going to have a long night on our feet at our concert. We left the house just before one and walked north to Oz Park which is created in honor of the creator of Wiz. of Oz, or something like that. Cute little neighborhood park with sculptures of Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow and Tin Man. We went through Oz park and then over to Lincoln park. Lincoln park is big, and has a free zoo smack dab in the middle. We perused the zoo, saw some cool critters, giant spiders, giraffes, meerkats,...

“If You Can’t, You Must!”

Thursday, September 16th We awoke this morning to a cloudy sky that soon opened up and dumped rain on the city. Thankfully we were still in bed when this happened and not walking the streets yet. We finally crawled out of bed at 9:30 and decided to take the subway down to the John Hancock center (the 3rd tallest building in Chicago) which is at the beginning of the Magnificent Mile (one mile of supreme shopping and sightseeing). Once out the door the rain had subsided and it was just below 70* with blue sky peeking through the clouds. The subway dumped us out just a few blocks from John Hancock and the moment I got a glimpse of the building my palms started to sweat. Kevin knew he was going to head to the top, and I had considered it yesterday, when I had viewed...

The Giant Jelly Bean

As you probably know from my previous post, I woke up WAY too early this morning. I gave up on sleeping just after 6am and spent a couple of hours online doing research. Thankfully it paid to be up WAY too early! Those few hours let me not only plan our day, but also landed me a list of “free museum days” and a buy one get one free architecture boat tour. SCORE! Once sleeping beauty, er, Kevin decided to greet the day (around nine) we got ready and hit the town. We’re about 4 blocks from the Subway/El Train which is super convenient. We used the red line today, the underground train. Haven’t been on the elevated train yet, looking forward to it though. We hopped on a train heading south and (with one small detour, getting off to catch the...

Good Morning!

Is it still “good morning” if you only sleep 4 hours? I guess I’m just too excited to sleep! We turned in at about 2am Chicago time and at six this morning I was wide eyed! I asked K if he was ready to get up and go. He grunted and rolled over. I’m guessing that is a “not quite yet honey”. I laid here for 40 or so minutes, but couldn’t coarse my body back to sleep, so what better to do than blog?! Now, if only I had something to blog about. Sigh. I did see the El train go by this morning! And now I’ve seen the Chicago skyline in the daylight, in person. Yay. As for new stuff to report…I’ve got nothing! Wow. I just re-calculated…according to my blog post I wrote it at 3am…meaning I’ve...

Hello Chicago!

Believe it or not, we made it! Who’d have thought?!? Definitely not me. But that is beside the point. We’re here now! Our plane arrived 30 minutes early, and overall it was a very good flight. A few tiny bumps here and there, but taking the Xanax really did help ease the pain. Kevin watched Pulp Fiction while I read and looked out the window watching America below. It was actually really cool, for the first time I could see my house as we flew over. Saw the Lightning’s house and Boca’s too! It was all very small but I could tell exactly what I was looking at. So, we arrived early, and the airport was packed. Not with travelers, but with a live band and hundreds if not thousands of people waving American flags there to greet troops flying in...

Here we go!

Hello faithful bloggers. I decided that this would be the perfect way to sum up our trip to Chicago seeing as I am very forgetful and love looking back on our Europe blog just one year later! As many of you know I hate to fly. I also hate drugs. Today I decided that my hate for flying is greater than that of the drugs, and so I have drugged myself. Xanax. Everyone swears by it. So far, I’m good. A bit loopy and anxious but overall I think I’m in a better place. Our ride gets here at noon, our flight leaves at two, and we arrive in Chicago 4 hours later (if all goes according to plan!!). So, with that, I welcome you back to our blog, and bid you adieu until Chicago. xox Nic PS: This is a shout out to Kevin’s parents. Somehow they managed to raise...
