Pizza Al Taglio (Pizza By The Slice)
I just wanted to share a pic of our favorite pizza we have had in Rome. No tables, no chairs, just cheap great pizza. Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tumblr it Tweet about it Tell a friend

Well, our tour is officially over. I have decided that I am NOT going to write a blog tonight as I am just too tired, but I am going to write an overview so I can fill in the blanks later. Tour ended last night, breakfast never happened this morning. Instead the sun was shining bright and so we called Mike and Claudia and asked if they’d still be up for an afternoon at the ruins followed by some gelato! They said of course and we hopped on a train and headed west! We met them at the train station, headed to the ruins, then to pizza, ice cream, and back on the train. Instead of heading back we decided to continue west for a few more stops and check out an Italian beach! Yep, that is right, today we were at the Mediterranean sea! Well, at least we think we...

I couldn’t believe this night had finally come. Could we really have spent the last 2 weeks with all of these people? Part of me felt like I had just met them and the other part felt like they were friends I had known a lifetime. Kevin and I both had some hiccups on this trip and I know that had we had a different group we might not be here today carrying on! We all met in the lobby at 6:30 so we could head to dinner for one last time as a group. Our fearless leader, once again, got the whole mess of us to a neighborhood restaurant where we sat in a semi-private room at two huge tables. As always she had arranged a vegetarian option for me (I appreciate that more than she’ll ever know!) and a sad little slab of meat was served to the rest of the gang....
Read MoreWhen in Rome…
Wow, what a day we had today and what a way to spend day 12 of our tour. We started this morning in Tuscany at 8am; once again too early for Nic and I. We took a nice group photo before piling onto the bus for another 5 hour trip. As you can guess we made a stop in 2 hours, then another stop in 1.5 hours at an Autogrill. We have all become very familiar with how to eat and purchase at an Autogrill. One thing they do differently is that you have to pay first before you get food. So, for a sandwich, you figure out the name of the one you want then you go to a register, which isn’t near the sandwiches, pay for your sandwich then go back and give it to a deli worker. The goal is to reduce contamination because money is so dirty. The food is fine but as I stated...

Well we made it to Rome today and I am hoping the blog and Flickr are going to be back on track today. The internet connection here is better and we have a lot to see. As a teaser, we are heading out to see the Colesseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Forum and 2 eating/shopping piatzas (sp). Check the blog around 1am our time, that’s 4pm for most of you. 3pm for Auntie. Also, no new news on Nana. No news is good news. We’ll update that too when we hear. Read MoreNana is in recovery…
Just called my uncle to check in on Nana and as I was on the phone with him the nurse told him she was out of surgery and in recovery. Whew. I got a bit more information from him this time. Sounds like the way the break is there is a space in the bone where the fracture happened. To repair it they pin it and plate it to keep it in place. Ideally the bone will grow back and repair itself assisted by the plate. They worry that her age will prevent growth of the bone which would result in a total hip replacement. Also, the way the break is the right leg will be shorter than the left now, but they aren’t sure how much. Sigh. Will keep you all posted. Thanks for all of the prayers and warm wishes. n Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share
Read MoreFlorence – Tour Day 11
Today was pretty cool. We woke up at 7:30 and headed to the bus at 8:00am. Our bus ride took us into Florence where we saw Michaelangelo’s David and his unfinished Prisoners which were for a Pope’s tomb. Or so I think, I will have to research that later. We walked around Florence for a couple hours, visited a very pretty church and headed back to the hotel for dinner. There isn’t a whole lot else to write. Some notables for later: David DaVinci unfinished drawing (very cool) Michaelangelo: Saw his only painting, everything else he did is a fresco Saw the famous Venus painting Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tumblr it Tweet about it Tell a friend
Read MoreInto Tuscany – Tour Day 10
Today started with our sad call about Nana’s hip. We spent the morning making phone calls and packing up before hopping on the bus for a 4 hour ride into Tuscany. The bus ride was fine, we stopped for a quick lunch at an Autogrill which isn’t too bad for rest stop food. Much better than the fast food we have in the US. Once we made it to our hotel in Tuscany, which is actually a winery, we simply laid by the pool. Nic went out for a bit to take pictures and I did a load of laundry but all in all it was a nice, quiet, relaxing day. Something EVERYONE needed. Read MoreVenice day 9
Just an outline so we remember These are gonna be short and sweet just to get us up to date. Our day in Venice started with a walking tour to see some back streets of the city. The guide was really fun and had been born and raised in Venice. She showed us old buildings, statues churches and streets and explained the history behind a lot of Venice. We ended in St. Marc’s Square, which I described the other day. From SMS Nic and I went to tour the Doges Palace and to see the prisons inside. Doges palace is like a mini versailles that isn’t quite as impressive. Just like versaille each room is different and fully decorated with guilded paintings, ceilings, rugs, fireplaces and such. Also inside were the prisons where the Terrible 10 would pass judgment...

Nana was supposed to have surgery this morning for her hip, however, her heart is acting up and so they could not get her stabilized enough to put her under. I am getting information from my uncle Tom who is there and so I’m not sure exactly what is happening. He said she may have had a heart attack yesterday? She is on monitors right now and they have called in a cardiologist. I will keep you posted. N.
