Venice day 9

Just an outline so we remember

These are gonna be short and sweet just to get us up to date.

Our day in Venice started with a walking tour to see some back streets of the city. The guide was really fun and had been born and raised in Venice. She showed us old buildings, statues churches and streets and explained the history behind a lot of Venice. We ended in St. Marc’s Square, which I described the other day.

From SMS Nic and I went to tour the DogesĀ  Palace and to see the prisons inside. Doges palace is like a mini versailles that isn’t quite as impressive. Just like versaille each room is different and fully decorated with guilded paintings, ceilings, rugs, fireplaces and such. Also inside were the prisons where the Terrible 10 would pass judgment on accused Venicians. They had historic carvings of peoples names and dates who had to serve time in the prison before being hung.

After Doges we did a lot of walking and shopping. We made it back to the Rialto bridge and had a nice lunch at a local self serve place. We were the only two english speaking people in the place but the food was excellent. We had some great gellato, well, actually, we had great gellato a few times. We got ourselves lost, turned a few corners to dead ends and found a book store that had mounds and mounds of books just piled around. He even had a gondola in his shop with books just thrown in it.

We made sure to take a nap today. We were both exhausted.

We had dinner by the water on the Grand Canal. It was very good, pricier than the interior places but what do you expect when you’re eating out on the water? After dinner while we were taking pictures we saw a guy walk into the canal because his walkway just ended and he was talking to his wife. It was really funny but I don’t have time to elaborate now. After we watched him fall into the canal we walked around venice taking pictures at night.
